En la catedral de Sigüenza encontramos la que es, sin duda, una de las más curiosas muestras de arte renacentista español, y también de las más simpáticas: la sacristía mayor del templo, también llamada Sacristía de las Cabezas, por la curiosa decoración de las bóvedas.
Alonso de Covarrubias trazó a principios de la década de los treinta esta obra, que constituye un paso adelante en la consecución del modelo clásico en su obra. Se trata de una sala rectangular, cubierta con cuatro tramos de bóvedas de cañón; los arcos fajones se sostienen sobre columnas jónicas y entre ellas se disponen arcosolios en los que encontramos las cajoneras típicas de las sacristías.
Si algo llama la atención de este espacio es la profusión decorativa, tallada en muchos casos por el propio Covarrubias con un gran dominio técnico y en un estilo plenamente renacentista. Esta ornamentación de relieves es especialmente abundante en las bóvedas de cañón, donde, en un orden estrictamente geométrico, se disponen rosetones y medallones en los que aparecen rostros y perfiles clásicos, lo que ha dado su curiosa denominación a esta original sacristía.
