El empleo de palomas para este fin tuvo su auge en la Antig\u00fcedad. En el siglo XIX, sin embargo, deriv\u00f3 en la \u00e9poca moderna en un deporte\u00a0que ya no tiene como finalidad llevar mensajes y s\u00ed recorrer un trayecto a la mayor velocidad posible medido mediante relojes especiales.<br \/>\nEn Bigastro, los aficionados a este deporte se re\u00fanen en peque\u00f1as fincas en las distintas veredas que hay en la huerta de Bigastro. All\u00ed se produce un gran espect\u00e1culo de palomas que salen disparadas a sus destinos, mientras los hombres se llaman por walkie-talkie (ahora quiz\u00e1s lo hagan mediante llamadas a m\u00f3vil o por Whatsapp. Cuando yo lo v\u00ed, era m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a y utilizaban los Walkie).
