{"id":12,"date":"2015-10-29T21:07:30","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T20:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/mappingame\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2019-07-23T08:49:48","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T07:49:48","slug":"research-aims-and-scope","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/mappingame\/research-aims-and-scope\/","title":{"rendered":"Research \/ Aims and scope"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #808080\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mappingame is a research laboratory developed by the Urban Design and Regional Planning Unit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the Building Sciences and Urbanism Department at the University of Alicante.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> It focuses on \u00a0the study of urban dynamics using open data from location based social networks and other web services.<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #808080\">Our research aims to explore the scope of application of open virtual data in Urban Studies. Through the development of cartographies using geolocated data we describe and explain urban dynamics \u00a0of cities within the context of the European Mediterranean Arc. Useful and often hidden information is revealed \u00a0about social behaviour and physical reality of cities.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #808080\">With a self-developed desktop app, we retrieve data from location-based social networks (so far, Foursquare, Twitter, Panoramio and Google Places). Then, we explore different ways to visualise data depending on the urban feature to be addressed. We assess urban complexity \u2014activities and liveability of a given area\u2014, urban identity, social cohesion, citizen preferences over urban public spaces, among other urban phenomena.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #808080\">Mappingame is committed to collaboration and knowledge exchange with other researchers and organisations in order to achieve a better understanding of our cities.<\/span><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mappingame is a research laboratory developed by the Urban Design and Regional Planning Unit of the Building Sciences and Urbanism Department at the University of Alicante.
