\u201cWe understand technology as a lens through which\u00a0the world is viewed and as such the design of that lens may enhance our\u00a0engagement with the world. Our work aims to foresee and dream of the future; a\u00a0utopian\u00a0or a dystopian future.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>We consider \u2018technology\u2019 on both a\u00a0theoretical\/conceptual level, as well as on an operation\/performance level. We\u00a0do not approach technology as simply building technology, but rather as a\u00a0synergy between the\u00a0actual \u2018nuts and bolts\u2019 and the experiential\/non-physical\u00a0qualities of architecture. Technology is an inseparable part of the equation of\u00a0architecture.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>We search for a technologically inspired,\u00a0instrumental architecture against the tyrannies of form and obsessive value in\u00a0image and novelty: Instrumental\u00a0architecture aims towards a \u2018superlative of capability\u2019 which contradicts the\u00a0reductive nature of functionalism, as functionalism approaches the idea of\u00a0purpose quite narrowly.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>We aim to resurrect the Vitruvian paradigm of\u00a0\u2018firmitas, utilitas and venustas\u2019 in a contemporary political, socio-economic,\u00a0cultural and environmental context; and\u00a0into the future\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n PROGRAMA ALICANTE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n 22nd<\/sup> TUESDAY night<\/strong><\/p>\n Daniel Sirvent<\/em><\/p>\n (Eurostars Lucentum hotel)<\/p>\n 23rd<\/sup> WEDNESDAY <\/strong><\/p>\n Pablo Mart\u00ed, urban planning class.<\/em><\/p>\n – 12,00 (3D EPS4) 20min presentation on a workshop the \u201cbuffer zone\u201d in Nicosia: urban strategies.<\/p>\n \u00c1ngel Benigno, sustainability\/installations class.<\/em><\/p>\n – 13:00. Lecture introducing the theoretical premise of the Home of the future workshop, going through examples of previous work and how these strategies had then evolved into propositions later in the academic year.
