Barbara Project

University of Alicante researchers create car parts from lemon, pomegranate, broccoli and
almond shells. With this FIAT-approved innovation, the large amount of agricultural waste
generated every day can be reduced. New substances with improved properties have been
obtained: lemon provides antimicrobial properties and a fresh fragrance, pomegranate and
broccoli can be used to create new natural colours and optical effects, and almond shells
enhance the mechanical properties of the material. This advance has been developed by two
UA research groups, Polymer and Nanomaterial Analysis, and Vision and Colour, in the
framework of the EU-funded Barbara project. Info.:https://bit.ly/2sdcAUc
