Para llevar a cabo el experimento vamos disponer de una aguja imantada que puede girar en torno a un eje que pasa por su centro. Inicialmente, sobre la aguja s\u00f3lo act\u00faa el campo magn\u00e9tico terrestre de forma que \u00e9sta se orienta en la direcci\u00f3n Norte-Sur.
