A pesar de que esta pr\u00e1ctica es habitual, legal, e incluso est\u00e1 subvencionada por la Uni\u00f3n Europea, deshacerse de productos como tomates, calabacines o pepinos acarrea unas importantes p\u00e9rdidas de agua, fertilizantes y energ\u00eda. Tal y como explica el autor principal del art\u00edculo e investigador de la Universidad de Alicante Jaime Mart\u00ednez Valderrama, ?en 2019, s\u00f3lo en la provincia de Almer\u00eda, se desperdiciaron 300.000 m3 de agua, m\u00e1s de 136 toneladas de fertilizantes, y se podr\u00eda haber evitado la emisi\u00f3n de 7.500 toneladas equivalentes de CO2?.
