{"id":579,"date":"2023-12-30T16:56:50","date_gmt":"2023-12-30T16:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/?p=579"},"modified":"2023-12-30T16:56:50","modified_gmt":"2023-12-30T16:56:50","slug":"new-biostratigraphic-data-on-the-paleocene-eocene-from-the-prebetic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/2023\/12\/30\/new-biostratigraphic-data-on-the-paleocene-eocene-from-the-prebetic\/","title":{"rendered":"New biostratigraphic data on the Paleocene-Eocene from the Prebetic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A biostratigraphic study of the Paleocene-Eocene of the\u00a0stratigraphically continuous with the northern foreland (Iberian Meseta), Prebetic has been studied by using\u00a0planktonic foraminifera, calcareous nannoplankton, and larger benthic foraminifera.\u00a0Twelve sections have been studied along the chain:\u00a0four sections in the Alicante Sector, four in the Murcia Sector, two in the Granada Sector, and two sections\u00a0in the Ja\u00e9n Sector.<\/p>\n<p>The Paleocene-Eocene Prebetic succession can be divided into three stratigraphic formations related\u00a0by lateral and diachronic changes of facies: limestones and calcarenites (rich in larger\u00a0benthic foraminifera) in middle stratigraphic position, and two marly-clayey formations in lower and\u00a0upper positions, respectively. The middle unit represents an internal marine platform, while the two\u00a0marly-clayey represent the external platform (and the upper slope in a few cases).
