{"id":587,"date":"2024-01-01T16:41:28","date_gmt":"2024-01-01T16:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/?p=587"},"modified":"2024-01-01T16:41:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T16:41:28","slug":"small-scale-rt-cycles-in-prebetic-lower-middle-eocene-alicante","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/2024\/01\/01\/small-scale-rt-cycles-in-prebetic-lower-middle-eocene-alicante\/","title":{"rendered":"Small scale RT cycles in Prebetic Lower-Middle Eocene (Alicante)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the study of the Alicante External Prebetic Eocene platforms, ten sedimentary facies were defined in field based on lithology and fossil content\u00a0observed, as follows: L1 \u2013\u00a0limestone (lmst.) with Alveolina; L2 \u2013 lmst. with small Nummulites (&lt; 3 cm diameter); L3 \u2013 lmst. with big\u00a0Nummulites (&gt;3 cm diameter); L4 \u2013 algal lmst.; L5 \u2013 lmst. with miliolids; L6 \u2013 micritic lmst. with\u00a0gastropods and bivalves; L7 \u2013 marls; L8 \u2013 greenish siltstones; L9 \u2013 dolomitized lmst. and\/or dolostone;\u00a0L10 \u2013 sandy lmst.<\/p>\n<p>The lower\u00a0interval of the Ibi section \u00a0twelve L2-L1 units were defined, after which the first dolomitized\u00a0limestone (L9) occurs, changing the motif to L2-L1-L9 or L1-L9. The middle part of the succession is\u00a0marked by the occurrence of facies L10, while the upper part by five units with L5-L7.<\/p>\n<p>The lower interval of the Ibi section, consists of thinning-upward units, each one\u00a0showing a shallowing-upward trend, indicating a decrease of accommodation in middle ramp area,\u00a0ended with the basinward shift of the proximal open inner ramp. The upper interval, consisting in\u00a0thickening-upward units, sedimented in lagoon-shoals of inner ramp, indicates increasing of\u00a0accommodation. This interval is preceded by a period of siliciclastic supply (L10). Consequently, at\u00a0the scale of the entire outcrop a regressive sequence can be defined with at least 12 smaller RT (Regressive-transgressive) \u00a0cycles, the\u00a0lower 6 developed in middle ramp environments, while the upper 6 in inner ramp.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_590\" style=\"width: 575px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-590\" class=\"wp-image-590 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/files\/2023\/12\/rt_cycles.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"565\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/files\/2023\/12\/rt_cycles.png 565w, https:\/\/blogs.ua.es\/westerntethys\/files\/2023\/12\/rt_cycles-300x226.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-590\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facies L2. Ibi section.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Prebetic Paleocene-Eocene stratigraphic succession shows a general regressive-transgressive trend.
