Richard Butler, Emeritus Professor in the Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow
Richard Butler was educated at Nottingham University (BA Hons in Geography) and the University of Glasgow (PhD in Geography), and then spent thirty years at the University of Western Ontario in Canada where he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Geography. After returning to the UK in 1967 he spent eight years at the University of Surrey as Deputy Head (Research) and Professor of Tourism in the School of Management. He then moved to Scotland and took a pastime position as Professor of International Tourism at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, and is currently Emeritus Professor in the Strathclyde Business School. He has published many journal articles, fourteen books on tourism and many chapters in other books. His research interests include the development of tourist destinations, the impacts of tourism, carrying capacity and sustainability, and tourism in remote areas and islands. He is a past president of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism and the Canadian Association of Leisure Studies. He has just edited books on Giants of Tourism, dealing with the role of individuals in changing the face of tourism, and Tourism and Political Change, and is beginning work on a book exploring the links between tourism and war and peace.
Josep Ivars i Baidal, Doctor en Geografía y Máster en Turismo
Profesor titular de la Universidad de Alicante. Ha compaginado la docencia universitaria con la investigación en materia turística y el desempeño de diferentes cargos en organismos públicos. Fue director de la Fundación Cavanilles de Altos Estudios Turísticos y Jefe del Servicio de Estudios y Planificación de la Agencia Valenciana del Turismo.
Ha desarrollado labores de consultoría para la Organización Mundial de Turismo en países latinoamericanos.
Cuenta con diversas publicaciones, tanto en libros como en revistas científicas, nacionales e internacionales, como Annals of Tourism Research o Tourism Management.
Actualmente, es director del instituto Valenciano de Tecnologías Turísticas (INVAT.TUR), dependiente de la Generalitat Valenciana.
Enrique Navarro Jurado, Profesor Titular de la Facultad de Turismo de la Universidad de Málaga
Doctor en Geografía y docente en la Facultad de Turismo de la Universidad de Málaga. Director del Grupo de Investigación “Territorio y Turismo” Secretario-Tesorero del Grupo de Turismo de la Asociación de Geógrafos Españoles (AGE) y miembro de la Secretaría Permanente de la Red Internacional de Investigadores en Turismo, Cooperación y Desarrollo (COODTUR). Ha participado en 21 Proyectos de Investigación nacionales e internacionales y contratos I+D, con distintas temáticas:
• Planificación y gestión de los destinos turísticos.
• Los limites del crecimiento y la capacidad de carga turística
• Diseño de políticas turísticas
• Indicadores de Sostenibilidad
• Geoeconomía y geopolitíca turística y las implicaciones socioambientales
• Turismo, cooperación y posibilidades de desarrollo en Latinoamérica
• Análisis multicriterio y su aplicación a la sostenibilidad y al cambio climático
• Diagnóstico de los recursos hídricos y sus repercusiones socioeconómicas
Cuenta con más de 20 publicaciones en revistas nacionales e internacionales y libros. Asesor-experto en 5 planificaciones regionales y locales.
Ha participado en 7 Master Internacionales y 2 Nacionales y 17 cursos especializados en Territorio y Turismo.
Gareth Shaw, Profesor de Retail and Tourism Management en la Universidad de Exeter
Gareth Shaw is Professor of Retail and Tourism Management at the University of Exeter. He is also an Innovation Fellow at the Advanced Institute of Management (London) and Director of Research in the Department of Management. He has published numerous books on tourism and has worked as a consultant for UNESCO, The National Trust and many other organisations. He is currently researching aspects of innovation and knowledge transfer in the tourism industry. He has published numerous papers, chapters and books including the following:
Critical Issues in Tourism (Blackwell 2002 2nd edition); Tourism and Economic Development: European Experiences ( Wiley 1998 3rd edition); The Rise and Fall of British Coastal Resorts (Pinter 1997); Tourism and Tourism Spaces (Sage 2004); Managing Coastal Tourism Resorts: A global Perspective (Channel View 2007)
Álvaro Gijón Carrasco, Gerente del Consorcio Playa de Palma.
Licenciado en Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales por la Universidad de las Islas Baleares y Executive Master of Business Administration, IE Business School , Madrid.
Ha desarrollado labores de Dirección en la cadena hotelera RIU HOTELES en República Dominicana y responsable de agencias mayoristas en países de Europa del Este en el grupo BARCELÓ VIAJES.
Fue Teniente Alcalde de Seguridad ciudadana Circulación y Transportes y estuvo al frente de la Dirección de Infraestructuras del Ayuntamiento de Palma. Así como, Presidente de la Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT Palma) y Presidente de la Sociedad Municipal de Aparcamientos de Palma (SMAP).
En la actualidad, es Primer Teniente Alcalde de Turismo y Coordinación Municipal y Gerente del Consorcio de Playa de Palma que promueve la reconversión integral de la zona.
